Partners
We want to help reporters and communities get their voices heard as widely as possible and in whatever medium suits their needs so we are building links with local partners to look at ways that we can work together.
- We have made good progress with The Argus, and the Argus bloggers are the first group of trainees we are working with.
- We have also made good links with the BBC, which already has a range of community outreach activities.
- We are working with the local community radio station Radio Reverb and specialist media training company DV8 on a Young Reporters project due to launch in April.
- We have good links with lots of people running the local community newsletters that drop through letterboxes all over the city. There are lots of them and we are keen to help support their work as much as we can. You can view a list of community newsletters on the Brighton & Hove Community and Voluntary Sector Forum site
- We’re beginning to talk to large independent websites such Virtual Brighton Magazine, as well as getting in touch with the people running smaller community and neigbourhood sites such as Coldean.org.uk many of which are inked to local community newsletters and run by residents groups.
Community partners
We want to build a network of Community Reporters which is as inclusive as possible and we are committed to developing learning opportunities that are accessible to as many people as possible. We hope our Taster sessions and networking events will be interesting to people who are proficient reporters, including professional journalists and writers. But we will be making particular effort to reach people who are marginalised or excluded from the usual mainstream activities.
We will also be building on the longstanding links we have with neighbourhood groups and community development activities which reach into isolated and marginalised parts of the city. We’re also looking for community partners to help identify groups and activities we can support, as well as working together to find funding or other resources to help make their local community activities sustainable.
We hope that they can help us find people who why try Community Reporting, so that we can provide training and support in local community centres to encourage people to get involved in what we’re doing.
We may be helping to set up a new community website, or recruiting new reporters for an existing community newsletter. We could be working with older people to help them share photographs of their lives or working with young people to get their voices heard and build communications skills which boost their chances of getting a job.
