Neil Ansell, a freelance journalist who has worked for the Big Issue and other voluntary organisations, is this month’s guest speaker at the monthly Community Reporters meet up on Wednesday 24 March, 7-9pm at Community Base.

As well as hearing Neil’s thoughts on the work of Community Reporters the meeting  is a great chance to come along and find out more about Community Reporters and meet other people interested in community reporting.

It’s a friendly, relatively informal affair and is free of charge thanks to support from Brighton & Hove Learning Festival. Please book now on Eventbrite so we can buy enough biscuits.

What is Community Reporting?
Neil Ansell is a freelance journalist who has successfully bridged the divide between the world of the voluntary sector and mainstream media. He will offer his view of community reporting from both sides of the fence and talk about what wehe has learned from his experience.
Ten years ago Neil worked at Big Issue in Brighton and began producing stories for the magazine. He then became one of the BBC’s first intake of Community Reporters and used his extensive knowledge of the local community sector to produce stories that other journalists couldn’t dig out.
He will talk about what the voluntary sector needs to know about getting its stories covered in the media and look at what journalists can do to build trust in the community.

Community Base is on 113 Queens Road, Brighton, BN1 3XG. If you have any questions, please email mark@scip.org.uk
